CINEMA SUNDAY: Palette In Tokidoki-Land

Last week, Tokidoki and LeSportsac released their full length, short film, Palette In Tokidoki-Land, and let me be the first to tell you - it is so so so fun!  I get mega Takashi Murakami vibes from it… a huge compliment coming from me (or anyone for that matter)!  It’s the ultimate, kawaii-hippy-trippy trip.  Enjoy!

Check out this absolutely AMAZING, virtual travel website I recently discovered that is launching next week.  Wonders Of The World, literally, lets you jetset all over the world virtually from the comfort of your living room or anywhere in the world for the matter!  It’s so incredibly innovative and perfect for the lazy and/or busy socialite on the go.  I can’t wait to start traveling next week!

LIFE UPDATE

On the day of Joan Rivers' funeral, I went and visited her Hollywood star to leave a few things in her memory.  I left some flowers (fake of course!) and a turquoise cross scarf from Michaelwood that I really love.  It was really sad, but nice at the same time to see how much she was loved by so many people.

I have this weird tradition of taking Polaroids (or Instax, now!) at funeral grave sights, so I snapped a couple at Joan’s star.  Some people don’t get it, but to me, it’s the most beautiful part of someone’s death - seeing all the flowers and mementos which physically embody and beautifully portray the love felt for that person.   I feel like that is a really nice memory to hold on to, so I do.

This week, I’ve just been trying to catch up with myself and take care of all the things I let slide last week, and I’m FINALLY all caught up.  Tomorrow I’m going out for a night of fun, so things are finally starting to even back out and feel normal again.  I hope all of you are well and keeping cool this HOT September!

SNEAK PEEK: Chibiphotography

image

Last week, I promised to unveil ALL the details of the new book I am working on… actually the 1st book I have ever worked on, and here it is!  The book will be a coffee table-style art book entitled Chibiphotography, which will consist of photography I have taken from my personal art collection of figurines.  I know you guys must have been wondering whyyyyyyy I was buying up all these crazy playsets to display my art figurines in, and this is why!  I’m not actually reverting back to childhood and having playtime as I know some of you were seriously questioning, haha!

image

image

All of the amazing art figurines I have collected over the years will be the stars of the book - living in a little micro-cosm of my perfect world, which I have created for them.  I’m not sure how long the book will take to complete… maybe a few months, maybe a few years!  I really don’t know or care.  I just want it to be great, and I have no doubt that it will be.

Be sure to follow @MallOfMichael on Instagram for more previews of my photo journey along the way!

Since it’s #MusicMonday on my blog, I thought I’d show yall my newest musical instrument!  I recently purchased a theremin for a Tricky / Portishead cover song with Dorine Levy I’m going to be working on soon for my upcoming album!  I have had absolutely NO theremin experience in the past, so I thought I should start practicing before it’s studio time!    I’m sure I will have some ridiculous videos to post during the learning process… Wish me luck!

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Buni Milani

What 3 words would you use to describe your sound?

Soft. Sexy. High.

Where are you currently based out of?

Jersey City, NJ

What is the craziest thing you’ve ever experienced playing a live show?

Honestly, nothing crazy has happened yet, but I welcome the crazy. I welcome the crazy memories.

If you could go on a dream world tour with any 3 artists, who would you take with you?

I pray this comes true… I would take Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, and Katy Perry. Of course they make great music, but they have amazing live performances and I’m taking several notes.  It would be a dream if I got to work with any one of them.

Any big projects in the works this year?

Yes, I’m going to be working on an album as well as a documentary on my process.  It’ll be really cool and I think people will appreciate the work, as well as getting a small glimpse of my personal life.  In the mean time, my EP, “High”, is out now on iTunes… Check it out!

Late last night, I found out that one of my biggest career heroes, Joan Rivers, succumbed to her declining conditions at Mt. Sinai and passed away yesterday.  I am so very saddened by this news, as all of this happened so fast and was so unexpected.  Although she was in very poor condition since being admitted into the hospital, I wanted to believe that given Joan’s larger than life spirit, another hospital stint (of all things) wouldn’t keep her out of this world, but like all of us - she was just as fragile of a human being as we all are.
Joan made me want to do red carpet reporting.  If it weren’t for Joan, I never would have walked all the carpets and interviewed the amazing people that I have today.  She took all of the stiffness out of the red carpet, and made it fun.  She made me care about fashion.  She showed the human in celebrity and made those on-camera experiences more relatable.  It’s hard to believe that I will never hear a new Joan joke, or see her again on the red carpet, but she will live on in our laughs and through history as one of the greatest and most outrageous television hosts and comedians of all time.
I’ll be spinning her comedy album, What Becomes A Semi-Legend Most, all day at Chateau Shirley.  Stop by if you want to pay your respects.
Live. Love. Laugh.

I can’t believe it’s already September!  And it so HOT too!!!!!  I don’t know what it’s like where you are, but it’s burning up here in Hollywood!  I feel like it should be getting chilly this time of year, but it’s hotter than it’s been all 2014!  Global warming I guess, or something?  SPEAKING OF HOT, be sure to check out this month’s mixtape in the previous blog post!  I’m listening to it right now on repeat.  Soooo good.
I’ve been a busy butterfly as usual, flying around from one project to the next in the constant balancing act that is my life.  Mic has been taking up a good bit of my time lately.  The new store is SO incredibly sick and just makes me smile so big on the inside every time I look at it!  It will unveil with the new fall collection in the coming weeks, and I can’t wait for you guys to see all the newness.  I’m super excited about the direction that brand is going.  I’ve always wanted to keep the prices lowwwww, so you won’t see any big price increases with all the new changes, luckily.
I’ve also been working on the new Doctor collection a little, but I’m taking this collection REALLY SLOWLY.  I think it’s been, like, a year now since any new designs have been released.  I was starting to feel a little distant from the brand after the last collection for various reasons, so I needed some time to fall in love with it all over again.  Speaking of Doctor - a ton of new/old items were added to the Doctor Couture Outlet store, so you can check it out for some 50% off deals on some old favorites if you’re interested!
On a whole other level, I’ve started work on some completely new endeavors I’m amped about.  I’m working on my first photo book as a photographer, and it is going to be the most kawaii book you will ever want on your coffee table.  I’m spilling ALL THE DETAILS on the book next Wednesday - like the concept, title, and even a special preview of some of the photos I have taken so far. So check back on the 10th for a preview of what I’ve got up my sleeve!
The other project is a deck of oracle cards.  After creating my tarot deck and seeing how powerful it was, I realized that I had a real gift for creating divinatory tools, so I decided that I needed to create an oracle deck while I was still in this phase of my life.  I also have not cared for any oracle decks I’ve ever seen, so I thought my take on it might be refreshing… and more modern than most, to say the least.  I haven’t quite decided how many cards I want to comprise the deck, so that will kind of influence the time frame, but I’m hoping to have them made available the same time as Michael Shirley French Tarot, when Tarot Read opens!
And my side project as an album artwork artist on Fiverr has turned into a budding new career!  I am barely able to keep up with all my orders it’s so crazy!  All of that combined with taking hosting classes with Marki Costello, as I make my transition from the web to TV, I am a busy, busy little butterfly.  I know I hadn’t really done much of a life update since July, so I thought it was long overdue!  I hope you all are enjoying this endless summer!
Love from Hollywood!
